Fighting Hunger

Food Warehouse SERVPRO of Putnam County owner Ed Killebrew shows off his forklift skills at the Epic-Cure warehouse in Palatka.

Epic-Cure

SERVPRO of Putnam County, in particular owner Ed Killebrew, has had the distinct pleasure to spend time coordinating food giveaways with Epic Cure. What started out as just a once a week giveaway in Palatka, has turned into one large weekly giveaway in Palatka and 2 others spread throughout Putnam County.

What is Epic-Cure?

Epic-Cure was founded in 2018 in response to the massive amount of food waste in our country. With 30-40% of our nation's food supply ending up in the landfill, there is absolutely no reason for so many families to go hungry.

Through volunteers Epic-Cure picks up rescued food from stores and restaurants, that would otherwise be thrown out based on the use by or sell by dates. The food is then brought to a distribution center, where it is given to those that need it.

Started Small

What started here in Palatka as smaller giveaways that occurred in parking lots eventually moved to a large warehouse. This is where the once a week giveaway started. It has since grown to be the one main giveaway at the warehouse to two additional giveaways around the county throughout the week. The main giveaway feed close to 800 families a week, and the 2 smaller one feed close to 300 each, every week.

Plans are for the large warehouse to eventually be set up almost like a grocery store, so families are able to come at any time during the week and pick up what they need!
