Boo on the Avenue

Some of the kids that stopped by out tent. Some trick or treaters who stopped by our tent to get their candy!

Happy Halloween!

Boo on the Avenue is an annual trick or treating event that takes place on St. Johns Avenue in downtown Palatka. Local businesses line the street to hand out candy to trick or treaters.

SERVPRO of Putnam County has participated every year since the event started. Like many things though, last years event was cancelled due to concerns about Covid-19. While we missed this event terribly last year, we understood why it needed to be skipped. Boo on the Avenue triumphantly returned this year! During the two hour event we handed out over 1,000 pieces of candy. We ran out of candy 30 minutes before the event ended!

We enjoy this event every year, and cannot wait to see everyone again next year!

Fighting Hunger

Food Warehouse SERVPRO of Putnam County owner Ed Killebrew shows off his forklift skills at the Epic-Cure warehouse in Palatka.

Epic-Cure

SERVPRO of Putnam County, in particular owner Ed Killebrew, has had the distinct pleasure to spend time coordinating food giveaways with Epic Cure. What started out as just a once a week giveaway in Palatka, has turned into one large weekly giveaway in Palatka and 2 others spread throughout Putnam County.

What is Epic-Cure?

Epic-Cure was founded in 2018 in response to the massive amount of food waste in our country. With 30-40% of our nation's food supply ending up in the landfill, there is absolutely no reason for so many families to go hungry.

Through volunteers Epic-Cure picks up rescued food from stores and restaurants, that would otherwise be thrown out based on the use by or sell by dates. The food is then brought to a distribution center, where it is given to those that need it.

Started Small

What started here in Palatka as smaller giveaways that occurred in parking lots eventually moved to a large warehouse. This is where the once a week giveaway started. It has since grown to be the one main giveaway at the warehouse to two additional giveaways around the county throughout the week. The main giveaway feed close to 800 families a week, and the 2 smaller one feed close to 300 each, every week.

Plans are for the large warehouse to eventually be set up almost like a grocery store, so families are able to come at any time during the week and pick up what they need!

Team SERVPRO celebrating with their end of the season bowling party!

Another Great Season

This past spring we once again had the pleasure of sponsoring one of our local t-ball teams. The kids had an excellent season this year! They ended the season in second place with just a couple of losses.

Been a Great Ride

This was the third season that we have sponsored the team for this group of kids. It has been so much fun watching the all of them grow, and seeing how much their skills as ballplayers improve. We wish those who move up to the next league the best of luck!

Kids are our Future

Here at SERVPRO of Putnam County we all believe that we need to invest as much as we can into our children. It does not have to be money, you can also volunteer time. Local sports leagues are always looking for volunteers to coach, get fields ready, or just help run the league in general. Our children of today will be running the world of tomorrow, and it is up to us to show them the way!
